Blessed Easter Tall and Skinny Mojo Style

After some illnesses swept through our house, I am finally back in the groove of papercrafting and will have several Easter projects to share with you this wee. The first one is an Easter card. I used the Mojo Monday Sketch to design my card. I used a card base of 6 inches by 4.5 inches in So Saffron. I added a piece of Pink Pirouette at the top and then the DSP is in Wild Wasabi. My image and sentiment are from the stamp set Blessed Easter. I cut the sentiment apart from the tulips so I wasn't as limited in how I could use the tulips. I stamped them both in Crumb Cake because I wanted a nice subtle image and the Staz On Jet Black was not doing it for me. I used my Stampin' Write Markers in the same colors to color in my tulips and leaves and then cut them out with an oval framelit. I used the Candy Dots in Wild Wasabu and some ribbon in SO Saffron that I had in my stash. I like how the card came together. I need to make an envelope still so we will see how that goes!

Happy Easter- Adorable Bunny Style

I love, love, love these bunnies from last year's Occasions Mini Catalog. So, they are reappearing in time for this year's Easter crafting projects. I played along with one of my favorite sketch challenges, Mojo Monday. It is contest week so be sure to play along!

I used Daffodil Delight as my card base and then added a strip from the Watercolor Wonder DSP. It has such great colors for Spring! I wanted to stay with more Spring colors so I went with Pool Party as my sky in my meadow scene. Instead a adding another layer, I used my paper piercing tool and added a double border to my Pool Party piece . To make it super easier to line up your piercings and keep them straight, use the Paper-Piercing Pack Essentials. I then added a sun using a 1 inch circle punch and I cropped it out of Daffodil Delight. I popped this up with a Stampin' Dimensional. To make it look lke my bunnies were playing in a meadow I used my scissors to add fringe to a piece of Pear Pizazz cardstock. I have the new Fringe scissors on my list but they are on backorder last I heard. I stamped my bunnies twice, once in Strawberry Slush and the other on Calypso Coral. I fussy cut them out and used two of one color and one of the other on each card. The first two are sitting behind the grass while the third one is popped up on dimensionals in front of the grass. I added a Calypso Coral bow. I tied the bow using a fork...here is the video. You can also use scissors in pretty much the same way. I can see that my bow tails aren't the same length on the two cards! I stamped my sentiment "Happy Easter" from the stamp set Teeny Tiny Wishes. On one card I used Calypso Coral and the other I used Strawberry Slush. I punched them out using the Word Window punch. If you do not have the set Teeny Tiny Wishes, I highly recommend adding it to your stamp set. It is the most versatile stamp set I have ever owned. It has so many different stamps and seriously has a sentiment for every occasion.

I am super pleased with how my card turned out. I had it created in my mind ever since Monday and couldn't wait to actually create it with paper and stamps. These cards will go to my daughter's teachers in a few weeks.

Lots and Lots of Candles

My husband's aunt has a birthday coming up in a few weeks so I thought it was a perfect time to make a birthday card as I played along with Mojo Monday's Tall and Skinny sketch that you cna see here. Tall and skinny cards or anything outside of the A2 framework is hard for me. I am just completely out of my element so a sketch is a great way to try something. I couldn't make my card completely skinny so I did leave the back a little wider than the card front... but not much so my scalloped circles still hang over the edge of the card when closed. I used Bermuda Bay as my card base and then added some 1 inch strips of DSP from the Kaleidoscope DSP available in the Occasions Catalog. I then used a larger piece from the same collection as the larger front panel that was Crushed Curry. I cut a large scalloped circle in black and then a smaller one in Strawberry Slush. I stamped my birthday cake from the Best of Birthdays stamp set in Black Staz-on and colored it in using a blender pen and ink pads. I punched it out with a circle punch and popped it all up. I pulled my ink and cardstock colors from the DSP.

Thank You Zoo Review Style: Using a Mojo Monday Sketch

One of my favorite sketch challenges to play along with is Mojo Monday's weekly challenge. This week was no different and this is my take on #333. I have been meaning to make a thank you card for one of my friend's, Jason. I met him through my sister and he is a super nice guy. He always makes a point to come and visit when I am in New York visiting my sister. He made my girls and I some blankets and even though my thank you is lond overdue I am going with better late than never! I have been using my blanket every night since it has been so cold so getting my thank you card out is on my mind every time I use it! Hopefully, since it is a hand made card that will make up for how late it is. Hopefully...

I really love the stamp set Zoo Review. I love the zoo and I am so lucky to have the wonderful Columbus Zoo and Aquarium practically right in my backyard! We are lucky to have Jack Hanna and we even got to meet him one day. He was filming a commercial when we went into one of the buildings and my girls walked right onto the set! He didn't mind at all and said it was fine for them to walk around. He even posed with my girls for a picture AND it was the one time I didn't have my camera so all I got was a not so good cell phone picture. It was back when cell phones didn't take good pictures so it was quite a few years ago.

Anyways, back to my card. I stamped my giraffe in Black Staz-On and then masked him off with a post-it note. Are you wondering what this means? Well, I stamped the giraffe on a post-it and then fussy cut around him. I then put the post-it note over the giraffe on my card stock. I used Inspired by Nature to stamp the grasses in Old Olive, Pear Pizazz, and Wild Wasabi. I then went back and filled it in with Old Olive and a sponge dauber. Then I created my sunset. I started at the bottom and used Daffodil Delight, next was Pumpkin Pie, and last at the top was Real Red all with sponge daubers. I got out my thank you stamp box and used the So Many Thanks to stamp my words. I stamped it on Pumpkin Pie and then punched it out with a 1 3/4 inch circle punch. I added some twine (I love that stuff!) and then a wooden button.

What do you think? I like how it turned out and can't wait to get it in the mail. I will put some extra postage on it since it has the button.

Hello Mojo Monday 331

I always love the Mojo Monday sketch challenges. Here is my take on Mojo Monday 331. This was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. I didn't want to use hearts as I am about done with my Valentine gifts. Plus, my new order of Stampin' Up! goodies arrived today so I was anxious to use them. I can't say I have really ever used triangles before in my papercrafting and I really felt like I didn't know what to do with them. It take me a while playing around with the triangles before I finally decided how to lay them on my card.

I used the Kaleidoscope DSP and followed its color theme with Basic Black, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush, and then I also added Smoky Slate. My sentiment is a basic "hello" from Pennant Parade and my ticket was stamped from That's the Ticket. I then used the ticket punch to punch it out. I used the new Triangle punch... and to get the different sized triangles I only inserted my paper part of the way to get the smaller ones. My must have from the Occasions catalog was the Banner Framelits Dies... they are AWESOME!! I cut my DSP using the largest size framelit.

MOJO Monday Sketch Challenge #217: What I Created

Square cards are hard for me for some reason. I don't know if it is just because of the limited space or what. I used the color coach for the Baja Breeze with Cajun Craze and Basic Gray for two of my cards and the color coach for Basic Gray with Melon Mambo and Old Olive. I made a total of three cards. One is square for the challenge and the others are a standard A2 size for mailing. I used the SU! stamp set Happiest Birthday Wishes, SU! Cardstock, Ribbon and Buttons.

One of my friends, Lynda, sent out a request for her dad's 90th birthday. Her dad, Johnny, shares a birthday with my mom. She wanted us to flood him with birthday wishes! I am sure it was like a tsunami if he is anything like his daughter... so sweet and fun to be around. I did add a scallop under the tag on this one because I felt it needed a little something extra to help make it pop. Here is the card I made for him:

So here we have three different cards made from a sketch. It goes to show that even if a sketch is square or not square that you can always tweak it to become your own. The color coach is a great tool to use when looking for color combinations... I have a hard time with cards for guys so I really like to use the COlor Coach as my starting point.

MOJO Monday Sketch Challenge #214

Come and play along with the gals over at MOJO Monday. Here is their latest sketch challenge. I am working on my card so I can play along and I hope you do too!

Playing along with the weekly challenges helps to keep me on my toes with my cardmaking. It seems like there is no time left in the day by the time the kids are in bed, but using a sketch allows me to create a card quickly, but also allows me to enjoy my hobby during the week. My tip for you is to look at the challenge and spend the rest of the day thinking about what you might like to do. I try to think about what the purpose of my card is, possible color schemes, and then what stamp set or punch art I might like to use. When I actually sit down to make the card, it is pretty well planned out in my head and I can pull it together in a matter of minutes. Trust me, the design part is the hardest part... with the sketch you are halfway there.

Fairies... You Have to Believe In Them to See Them

I did get to join in the fun over at Mojo Monday with their sketch challenge (see below for earlier post and link) that I shared the other day. I made this card with my sister in mind. She lives in hot, hot, hot Texas so she isn't close at all and a card will brighten her day. When she was visiting last summer, I introduced her to cardmaking and she loved it! She went home with a stash of cards but I am sure they are all gone by now. She wasn't able to visit this summer, sadly. When she was here last year this stamp set, A Little Bit of Magic, was in the 2010 Summer Mini but I really didn't have enough time to order it when she was here. After she left I knew I had to get it so next time she comes she can use it... she really fell in love with it. I ordered it, school started, and the stamp set became very lonely. Every so often I thought about getting it out and making a card to send to her but school, coaching, and the girls activities didn't leave me much time to play. When I saw this Mojo Monday sketch challenge, I knew it was time to finally play with the stamp set. Here it is:

I used cardstock in Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry. I colored in my image use blender pens and ink pads. These are the colors I used: Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry, Blush Blossom, Soft Suede, River Rock, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight. and Pretty in Pink. That is a lot of colors, but it really was fun to color it in and see it come to life!!

So... the scalloped edge?? I used my SU! Tasteful Trim Sizzix Die but I wanted the whole piece and not just an edge. Not to worry. I diecut the edge out and then adhered it next to my solid piece. I hid my seam with a piece of ribbon. I used the small oval (now retired) and the large oval to stamp and mat my sentiment. My hello is from Fundamental Phrases (which I think retired a few years ago maybe??)

Sketch Challenge- MOJO Monday

Mojo Monday Sketch- Come Play Along

Happy 4th of July Everyone!! We had a great day with a little bit of everything... rides, cookout with family, food, and fun, and then finished the night off with what else but fireworks!!

I am going to begin working on mine after the kiddos go to bed. I already know who I am going to give it to. I called my brother-in-law to see about have an impromptu get together with as many family members as we could gather on short notice. He said just come on over to his house and he would have it there! No cleaning for me and he can cook some chicken legs! We had a ton of food even on short notice and everyone had a great time. To show my appreciation and let him know how much fun we had, he will be receiving the card I make for this challenge as a thank you:)
